Illumination

9:00 AM – Welcome & Relaxation
We start the day with a half-hour session (relaxation, yoga, prana) before heading to the workshop.

Morning – Learning
A brief introduction to traditional drawing techniques. Basic calligraphy concepts for beginners. Exploring medieval color theory in manuscripts. Learning the proper strokes and mastering the tools.

12:00 PM – Shared Meal
A friendly “potluck” meal. Everyone brings a small dish, complemented by seasonal vegetables from the garden.

2:00 PM to 5:00 PM – Guided Workshop
Let’s get creative! We’ll experiment with egg tempera painting: we’ll mix the eggs with pigments and natural materials ourselves.

A large collection of books, tracing 10 centuries of illumination before the advent of incunabula, is available for you to browse at your leisure to fuel your inspiration. Paper and goat parchment are provided to bring your artwork to life. The studio will lend you its materials, which you’ll use responsibly—whether it’s a flat-nib pen, a metal dip pen, or a goose quill from the farm across the road.

A kettle and tea await you in the large fireplace room adjacent to the studio for a relaxing break.
The large fireplace room features a spacious lounge area with a reading nook.
